Dhaka, Mar 16 – Dr Anindita Datta, an associate professor at the Radiology and Imaging Department at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), was allegedly harassed by a group of people on Sunday.

Dr Anindita, 38, daughter of former BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Dr Pran Gopal Datta, was on duty at the Radiology and Imaging Department when the incident took place.

Around 1:30 pm, a group of students, accompanied by local residents, entered the BSMMU premises and informed the hospital’s administrative officer that Dr Anindita was an accused in a case, according to officials who spoke to UNB on condition of anonymity.

Witnesses said that the group then created chaos inside the hospital and threatened to have her arrested.

Upon receiving information, a team from the Bangladesh Army arrived at the scene, prompting the crowd to disperse.

Later, police officers and senior officials arrived to enquire about the allegations against Dr Anindita.

At around 2:55 pm, the army intervened again and escorted her to a safe location.

When contacted, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station Khalid Mansur said he was unaware of any such incident. - UNB
