Three Rohingyas held with arms, explosives in Teknaf
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today arrested three Rohingya nationals and seized two G-3 rifles, two locally made single-barrel guns, 42 rounds of ammunition, four kilograms of explosives and other equipment in Teknaf upazila here.
The seized items also included three teasers, six walkie-talkie sets and a magazine. An easy-bike allegedly used to transport the arms and other equipment was also seized, said a BGB press release issued this evening.
Acting on intelligence that an arms consignment was being transported through Leda Bazar in Hnila union for delivery to a criminal group based in a Rohingya camp, an operational team of Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) took position in the area.
At around 10:30am, the BGB team intercepted a suspicious easy-bike and detected metal objects inside sacks using a metal detector.
The vehicle and its three occupants were subsequently taken to Leda Border Outpost (BOP), where BGB personnel conducted a search and recovered the arms, ammunition, explosives and other equipment concealed inside sacks of potatoes.
The detainees were identified as Mohammad Usman Belal, son of Rubali, of Camp No. 1 Kutupalong; Mohammad Muslim, son of Foyez Ahmed, of Camp No. 26 Mochni; and Mohammad Ansar Ali, son of Yunus, of Camp No. 1 Kutupalong.
Teknaf Battalion Commander Lt Col Mohammad Hanifur Rahman Bhuiyan said BGB remains vigilant and active in preventing arms and explosives smuggling and other crimes in border areas, reports BSS.
He said intelligence surveillance, regular patrols and coordinated operations with other law enforcement agencies would continue to prevent illegal arms trafficking and ensure public safety, the release added.
