Dhaka, 13 September 2026: Artist Club Ltd. will host a special edition of its weekly cultural programme “Iconic Tuesday”, featuring an exclusive solo flute recital by renowned Bangladeshi classical flautist and Ekushey Padak recipient Ustad Azizul Islam.

The programme will take place on Tuesday, 15 September 2026, at 7:30 PM at the Artist Club Lounge in Banani, Dhaka, bringing together members of the cultural community, invited guests and members of the diplomatic and media communities for an intimate evening celebrating Bangladesh’s classical musical heritage.

A Living Legacy of the Bansuri

Ustad Azizul Islam stands among Bangladesh’s distinguished practitioners of Hindustani classical flute. His musical journey spans more than six decades and is remarkable not only for his dedication to music but also for his unusual professional life.

Before becoming widely recognised as a classical flautist, he served as an ocean-going captain. During his years at sea, his flute remained a constant companion.

His early training began under Pandit Priyada Ranjan Sengupta, followed by Ustad Vilayat Ali Khan and Ustad Bahadur Khan. He later learned from Pandit Debendra Muddeshwar and Pandit V.G. Karnad, while Pandit Pannalal Ghosh remained his first and principal inspiration.

A Career Beyond Borders

For more than six decades, Ustad Azizul Islam has performed solo flute at numerous prestigious cultural gatherings in Bangladesh and abroad. His international engagements include India, Singapore and Australia.

In Bangladesh, his recitals have been presented by Bangladesh National Museum, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television.
