Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus expressed strong confidence on Tuesday that the upcoming national elections will be the most free, fair, and credible in Bangladesh’s history.

"In my previous statements, and once again now, I reaffirm that the elections will take place between December of this year and June of next year," he said in a televised address to the nation, delivered on the eve of Independence Day and Eid-ul-Fitr.

Prof. Yunus emphasized that the Election Commission has already begun its preparations for the polls, urging all political parties to engage in the process with enthusiasm and a spirit of cooperation.

Focus on Consensus and Transparency

He also highlighted the ongoing work of the Consensus Commission, which is actively gathering input from all political parties to identify common ground and create a unified framework for the election process.

“The commission is working diligently to draft a consensus-based document that will serve as the foundation for the elections,” Prof. Yunus explained. “The parties that support this document will sign the 'July Charter,' which will formalize their agreement on the election process.”

Reaffirming the government's commitment to ensuring a fair election, the Chief Adviser stated that the government's role is focused on maintaining transparency and facilitating a smooth electoral process once the political consensus is reached.

“This administration’s responsibility is to guarantee transparency in every step of the election process, ensuring the elections are conducted without bias or interference," he assured.

Prof. Yunus concluded by urging all political parties and citizens to unite for the collective goal of a fair and credible election, which he believes is essential for Bangladesh’s continued democratic progress.
