Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali has assured that multi-layered security arrangements have been put in place at the Central Shaheed Minar and surrounding areas ahead of Shaheed (Martyrs') Day and International Mother Language Day.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Shaheed Minar premises, the Commissioner said there are no security concerns for Ekushey February. Around 15,000 police personnel will be deployed to ensure a peaceful observance of the day.
“A large crowd is expected to pay tribute to the language martyrs, and we have taken comprehensive measures,” he added.
Security measures include bomb disposal units, CCTV surveillance, dog squads, and coordination with other law enforcement agencies. Volunteers will assist in maintaining order, while traffic will be diverted at seven points after evening to ensure smooth movement and safety.
Visitors are advised to access the Shaheed Minar via Palashi intersection, Jagannath Hall crossing, and Shaheed Minar Road, and exit through Doel Chattar or Chankharpul. The public has been asked not to bring sharp or flammable items.
The DMP Commissioner also inspected preparations at the site earlier in the day. The Shaheed Minar will open to the public around 12:40 am, following tributes by the President, Prime Minister, other state officials, and foreign diplomats.
