The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has deployed 667 patrol teams in two shifts across 50 police station areas every day to ensure law and order during Eid-ul-Fitr, according to Additional Police Commissioner (Detective Branch) Rezwan Karim Mallik on Saturday.

Speaking at a press briefing on security measures for Eid, Mallik explained that 71 police checkpoints have been established at key and strategic locations across the capital to bolster security.

To counter potential sabotage at financial institutions, shopping malls, railway stations, bus terminals, and launch terminals, the Detective Branch (DB) has ramped up intelligence surveillance. He also revealed that the DB’s cyber team is closely monitoring online activities to prevent the spread of misinformation and propaganda during Eid.

In addition to regular patrols, the DB will launch a "special operation" targeting muggers, thieves, extortionists, and habitual offenders to safeguard residents returning home after the holiday. Specialised teams from DB's eight divisions will carry out this operation at key locations throughout Dhaka.

The DB is also focused on preventing the circulation of counterfeit currency, with several recent raids leading to the seizure of fake banknotes and the arrest of counterfeit gang members.

Mallik urged city residents to report any suspicious activities or security concerns at nearby police outposts, stations, or DB offices. He also encouraged the public to contact DMP’s control room or the national emergency helpline (999) for assistance.
