On March 31, thousands gathered to participate in a historic rally following the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at Agargaon, marking the first-ever celebration of its kind in Dhaka. The rally commenced at the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) grounds in Agargaon, where the Dhaka North City Corporation had organized a grand Eid congregation.
The procession made its way towards Sangshad Bhaban, where a vibrant cultural programme awaited participants, celebrating both the spirit of Eid and the unity of the city’s diverse communities.
In his speech inaugurating the cultural event, Dhaka North Administrator Ejaz emphasized the importance of inclusivity, stating, "Today, friends of different religions have joined our Eid celebration. We are reviving our traditions and celebrating unity."
The event saw participation from people of various faiths, further reinforcing the spirit of harmony that the rally aimed to promote. Adviser Asif Mahmud highlighted the significance of the day, saying, "We will never forget our martyred brothers on this joyful occasion. Today, Eid truly feels like Eid for us. After a century, we are bringing back the traditional Eid procession in Dhaka. This will become an annual celebration. We want to make Eid a festival for all, where people don’t stay home watching TV but come together to celebrate in joy."
Father Mohammad Saifull Islam, who had attended the National Eidgah prayers with his son, shared a hopeful message, saying, "May we all forget our differences and walk together in peace."
To ensure the safety and security of all participants, Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) teams from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police were deployed along the route, maintaining a safe environment for the rally.
The morning's Eid congregation, held at 8:30 am, was attended by Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, Dhaka North Administrator Ejaz, and other government officials, alongside thousands of citizens. Meanwhile, the main Eid prayers were held at the National Eidgah, where Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, along with other advisers of the interim government, offered their prayers.
This grand rally not only marked a historic celebration of Eid but also reflected the growing spirit of unity and cultural pride in the heart of Dhaka.
