Rafiqul Islam made BPC chairman

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on Sunday announcing his appointment. An earlier order transferring him to the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs as an additional secretary has been cancelled.

Rafiqul Islam, who was serving as a Member of the Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council (BEPRC), takes charge following a series of top-level shuffles at the BPC since the beginning of this year.

On January 29, the government removed BPC Chairman Md Amin-ul-Ahsan. On February 1, Additional Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division Rafiqul Alam was given additional charge as BPC chairman.

The following day, on February 2, Additional Secretary Md Rezanur Rahman, who previously served as Petrobangla chairman, was appointed BPC chairman.

However, after serving for nearly six months, Rezanur was attached to the Ministry of Public Administration on July 26.

Following his departure, Additional Secretary Md Ziaul Huq was assigned the additional charge of BPC chairman on August 2. After the position remained vacant for nearly a week, Additional Secretary Md Manzur Alam Pradhan was appointed acting chairman on August 12.

With Rafiqul Islam's appointment, BPC gets a full-time chairman following several interim and additional charge arrangements in recent months, reports UNB.

Rafiqul Islam belongs to the 18th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS).

He completed his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Dhaka University. He later earned an MPhil in Chemistry from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
