Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has reiterated that the upcoming general election will be held in a festive and peaceful manner.

"I can tell you that the next general election will be held in a festive and peaceful manner," he said.

The adviser made the remarks today while replying to a question from journalists how the next election will be after coming out of the 14th meeting of the advisory council at Home Ministry in Bangladesh Secretariat here, reports BSS.

It is usual that one or two small incidents happened during the election, he said, adding, "But, we are trying our best to check such incidents in the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections slated for February this year."

Replying to a question about media reports over uncertainty of the next general polls, the home adviser said the country is independent and the media as well.

"So, you can speak freely which you didn't prior to the July uprising," he said.
