Brahmanbaria Chemist and Druggist Association is observing the strike, causing suffering to patients.
The association leaders held a protest rally marching through key streets before holding a sit-in in front of the college market on Monday morning.
Speakers included the association’s senior vice president Md Shanul Haque Bhuiyan, municipality unit president Noore Alam Siddiqui, and business leaders Md Ziaul Haque and Khokon Khan.
They said that since 1983, 14 pharmacies had been rented at Tk 28,000 each, with rent paid regularly.
However, authorities recently labeled these shops as illegal and attempted forceful eviction.
Calling this move an inhuman and unlawful, businesses requested a six-month period to relocate shops under existing agreements but the college authorities have not considered this.
They demanded the immediate halt of eviction operations and a fair solution for the affected traders, with a threat for continuing the strike until it is resolved, reports UNB.
Meanwhile, the college students have also been protesting in front of their institution, demanding the construction of a new gate for the college after evicting the shops.
