Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus is likely to hold bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on March 28, the foreign ministry’s spokesperson said today.

“A bilateral meeting with the President of China is scheduled for March 28,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mohammad Rafiqul Alam told reporters during the ministry’s weekly briefing while responding to a query regarding the Chief Adviser’s upcoming visit to China.

Alam, who also serves as the director general of the ministry’s publicity wing, outlined the preliminary schedule, noting that Professor Yunus is expected to depart for China in the afternoon of March 26.

On March 27, the Chief Adviser will attend and deliver a speech at the opening plenary of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference, reports BSS.

Later that afternoon, Chief Adviser Yunus is expected to meet with the Executive Vice President of China’s State Council.

The following day, Yunus will meet President Xi Jinping for bilateral talks in Beijing.

On March 29, he is scheduled to attend an event at Peking University in the morning before returning to Bangladesh that night.

Alam mentioned that relevant concerned sides are currently working on the bilateral agendas to be discussed during the high-level visit.

He added that the foreign ministry will hold a curtain-raiser press briefing to provide further details about the trip.

Earlier this week, an inter-ministerial meeting, chaired by the foreign secretary, was held at the foreign ministry to discuss Bangladesh’s agenda for the upcoming talks with the Chinese president.
