Garment worker stabbed dead by Jhalmuri vendor in Gazipur

The deceased was identified as Rafis Ahmed, 32, son of Khorshed Alam Gazi of Banshakhali village in Dakop upazila of Khulna district. He is survived by his wife and a seven-year-old daughter.

Victim’s cousin  Nazmul said  Rafis was eating jhalmuri at a roadside shop when a jhalmuri vendor at another nearby shop was arguing and shouting with several passersby around 9pm.

Rafis went there in an attempt to settle the dispute but the vendor became angry and attacked Rafis and two others with a sharp knife he was carrying, Nazmul said.

Rafis sustained a deep stab wound to the right side of his abdomen and was critically injured.

He was initially taken to a local hospital.

Later, as his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital  department around 1am, where doctors declared him dead.

Nazmul said a police patrol team with the help of local residents, detained the attacker shortly after the incident, reports UNB.

Inspector Md Habibur Rahman, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, said the body was kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
