Satkhira-4 MP, First Wife Taken Into Police Custody

Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Islam and his first wife have been taken into police custody for questioning following the recovery of the hanging body of his second wife from a flat at NAM Bhaban in the capital.

The deceased was identified as 19-year-old Mariam Khatun. Police recovered her body from Flat 203 on the third floor of Building 5 at NAM Bhaban in Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area on Sunday evening.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner Ibn Mizan said police went to the scene after receiving information about the incident and later brought in forensic teams from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and other investigative units to collect evidence.

“After completing the inquest report, we sent the body to the hospital,” he said.

The body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. Police said the circumstances surrounding the death remained under investigation and it had not yet been determined whether it was a case of suicide or murder.

The MP and his first wife were taken into custody for questioning in connection with the incident.

Police said further legal action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
