The incident occurred around 11 am near the Mogara Railway Bridge, according to a press release from the Ministry of Railways.
The victims were identified as Abdul Kaiyum Mia, 22, son of Abdul Karim Mia from Debidwar upazila in Cumilla, and Tarek Mia, 20, from Kasba upazila in Brahmanbaria. The injured were Ikram Hossain, 18, and Billal Mia, 25, both from Kasba upazila.
The accident unfolded when the Sylhet-bound Paharika Express, traveling from Chattogram, passed through Gangasagar Railway Station in Akhaura. As the train neared the Mogara Railway Bridge, the four young men, perched on the train’s roof, stood up to record a video.
While filming, three of them were capturing footage of one another when they became entangled in an overhead cable. The entanglement caused them to lose their balance, and they fell from the moving train, the release noted.
Abdul Kaiyum died instantly from the fall, while local residents quickly rushed to assist the others. Ikram and Billal were taken to Akhaura Upazila Health Complex, and one of them was later transferred to Brahmanbaria General Hospital for further treatment. Tragically, Tarek Mia succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital.
This heartbreaking accident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of reckless behavior for social media content, especially when it involves risky actions in public spaces. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
