Seven individuals, suspected of being supporters of the banned Chhatra League, the student wing of the Awami League, were arrested early Thursday in Sylhet for organizing a procession in the group's favor.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Zahirul Islam (19), Sohel Ahmed Sani (18), Robin Kar (23), Fahim Ahmed (23), Rajan Ahmed Ramzan (23), Bashir Khan Lal (50), and Soheb Ahmed.

The procession took place on Wednesday morning in the Dhopadighirpar area of Sylhet city, where the participants displayed a banner featuring the image of Awami League's central organizational secretary, Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, alongside slogans praising his name. The group also distributed leaflets in support of the banned Chhatra League.

A video of the procession quickly went viral on social media, sparking widespread criticism. The Awami League subsequently shared the video on its official Facebook page, further fueling the controversy.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Mohammad Saiful Islam confirmed that the suspects were arrested from various locations around the city at approximately 1 AM on Thursday. He added that authorities are actively working to apprehend additional individuals involved in the procession. Legal action will be pursued against the arrestees.

The Chhatra League has been banned by the government due to its involvement in illegal activities, and the authorities continue to monitor actions linked to the group.
