A fire broke out in a compartment of the Mohua Express commuter train in Sreepur, Gazipur, on Thursday morning, causing a major disruption to rail services on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route.
The train, en route to Mohonganj in Netrakona, had departed from Dhaka's Kamalapur Railway Station earlier in the day. The blaze ignited around 10:30 AM in the last bogie, near the Satmakhair Railway Station in Sreepur upazila, according to eyewitnesses.
Authorities promptly halted the train to prevent the fire from spreading. The affected bogie was detached, and emergency responders worked swiftly to extinguish the flames, containing the damage.
Joydebpur Rail Station Master Abul Khayer confirmed that train services would be resumed on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route once the damaged bogie was cleared from the tracks.
As of 12:30 PM, train operations remained suspended, with an investigation underway to determine the cause of the fire. Firefighters managed to bring the situation under control shortly after it began.
The incident has left travelers stranded, and authorities are working to minimize the impact on the disrupted route.
