Two killed as truck hits motorcycle in Dinajpur

A woman and her nine-year-old daughter were killed when a truck hit the motorcycle they were riding on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional highway in Ghoraghat municipality of Dinajpur on Friday.


The deceased were identified as Shampa Begum, 35, wife of Selim Sarker of Fulhar village in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha, and their daughter Nusaifa Akhter.

Selim, who was riding the motorcycle, sustained minor injuries in the accident.

Officer-in-Charge of Ghoraghat Police Station Shahidul Islam said Selim, along with his wife and daughter, was going to attend a wedding at Hamidpur Chittipara in Ghoraghat.

On the way, a truck hit the motorcycle from behind near Ghoraghat Filling Station in the municipality around 11:30am, he said.

The impact threw Shampa and Nusaifa onto the road, where they were run over by the same truck, killing them on the spot, reports UNB.

Police were trying to trace the truck and arrest its driver, the OC added.
