Two children drown in Jashore
Two children drowned while picking water lilies in a beel (wetland) in Manirampur upazila of the district this noon.
The deceased were identified as Yasmin, 6, daughter of Aliar Rahman and Jisan, 10, son of Mofizur Rahman. They were cousins and residents of Hajrakati village under Mashominagar union of the upazila.
The incident occurred at 12 noon at Parkhajura Baor in Hajrakati village.
According to police and local sources, Yasmin and Jisan went to the haor together to collect water lilies. At one point, they accidentally fell into the water and drowned.
After receiving the news, family members rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies of the two children.
Confirming the deaths, Rajganj Police Investigation Centre Inspector Md Kamal Hossain said police went to the spot immediately after the incident. Legal proceedings in connection with the deaths are underway, reports BSS.
