China Eastern Airlines is set to launch direct flights from Chattogram, Bangladesh, to Kunming, China, aiming to make it easier for Bangladeshis, particularly from the eastern regions, to access affordable medical treatment in the southern Chinese city, officials announced on Saturday.

Currently, China has designated four hospitals in Kunming to treat Bangladeshi patients. However, the high cost of airfare has been a significant barrier for many in accessing these healthcare services.

The introduction of direct flights between Chattogram and Kunming is expected to significantly reduce both travel expenses and time, making it more accessible for Bangladeshis to receive medical care in China.

Md. Nazmul Islam, Bangladesh's Ambassador to China, highlighted that the Kunming hospitals have set aside dedicated floors for Bangladeshi patients. "The treatment fees are highly affordable, with Bangladeshi patients paying the same rates as local Chinese citizens," Ambassador Islam noted.

To further facilitate travel, civil aviation authorities in Dhaka are working to lower ticket prices for flights between Dhaka and Kunming, further alleviating the financial burden.

Chinese officials have also pledged to expand healthcare options for Bangladeshis in the country, ensuring more hospitals are available for treatment.

In addition to these efforts, Bangladesh plans to send a delegation of journalists to Kunming in April to assess the healthcare facilities first-hand.

Last month, a group of Bangladeshis traveled to Kunming for treatment, with many praising the high standards of the hospitals. However, several expressed concerns over the affordability of travel, underscoring the need for more accessible flight options.
