Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of Bangladesh, urged students at Peking University (PKU) to think boldly and aspire to change the world. Speaking at a ceremony this morning, he emphasized that universities should be spaces not just for learning, but for imagination.

"Imagination is the greatest power on Earth," Prof. Yunus said. "If you imagine, it will happen. If you don’t, it will never happen." He encouraged students to pursue even the most unconventional ideas, noting that human progress is about making the impossible possible.

Prof. Yunus, who was awarded an honorary doctorate by PKU, described the university as a "center of knowledge, wisdom, innovation, and excellence." He expressed pride in being accepted as an honorary professor and said the honor reminded him of his commitment to the dreams of millions of youth in Bangladesh who are driving the country's transformation.

Reflecting on his government’s reform agenda, Prof. Yunus highlighted efforts to build a democratic, resilient Bangladesh with equal opportunities for all, particularly focusing on entrepreneurship. He argued that poverty is not a natural condition but a result of flawed economic systems that deny people fair chances.

"The human being is not born to be a job seeker; we are creators," Prof. Yunus asserted, stressing the importance of fostering entrepreneurship. He pointed out the incredible potential of women, noting that even the poorest woman in Bangladesh can become an entrepreneur with as little as a $20 loan.

Prof. Yunus also discussed the purpose of education, stating, "The purpose of education is to unlock creativity and enable individuals to change the world." He urged students to contribute to a carbon-free economy to protect the planet, advocating for his "Three Zero Theory"—zero carbon emissions, zero poverty, and zero unemployment.

He concluded by emphasizing his social business theory, which focuses on businesses solving social problems, and called on students to embrace a ‘three-zero’ mindset to help reshape the future.
