BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has relinquished the Bogura-6 parliamentary seat after winning in two constituencies in the 13th national election, Election Commission officials said.

He formally informed the Election Commission of his decision to vacate the seat. Rahman contested and won from both Bogura-6 and Dhaka-17 and is set to take oath as a Member of Parliament from Dhaka-17 tomorrow.

Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed that the BNP chief has given up the Bogura-6 seat.

Under electoral rules, a candidate may contest from up to three constituencies but can retain only one seat if elected from multiple constituencies.

According to the Representation of the People Order, the vacated Bogura-6 seat must be filled through a by-election within 90 days of the official declaration. The Election Commission will arrange the by-poll after completing the gazette formalities.
