Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Friday called for a corruption-free and just governance system, stressing the need for a fair society.

“We want a Bangladesh free from corruption and misrule. We will vote for ‘Yes,’ and ‘Yes’ means freedom,” he said at an electoral rally at Noakhali Zilla School ground, reaffirming the party’s commitment to ending corruption and authoritarianism.

Dr Rahman outlined several development initiatives for Noakhali, including the creation of a new division, upgrading Noakhali city to a City Corporation, and measures to prevent riverbank erosion in Hatia, Kompaniganj, and Subarnachar. He also promised a closure dam on the Feni River, a railway line from Sunapur to Hatia Chairman Ghat, and elevating Subarnachar to a municipality.

Highlighting the coalition of 11 parties, he said, “We have added ten more symbols alongside the symbol of justice, ‘Daripalla’ (Scale). Wherever it is placed, we will consider it part of ‘Justice.’ Let us work together for the success of our alliance.”

Dr Rahman also emphasized fair pay for government employees to prevent corruption. “Many do not live righteously because they lack adequate salaries. Proper recommendations from the Pay Commission will ensure honest service, and strict action will follow for violations,” he said.

He criticized corrupt practices and extortion, warning that illegal gains cannot secure a family’s future. Reflecting on Noakhali’s legacy, he praised local scholars and educators and described its people as resilient and brave.

Dr Rahman recalled Jamaat-e-Islami’s past hardships, including office closures and persecution of leaders, stressing that the party upheld its values without engaging in corruption or violence. He pledged continued protection of public institutions and support for persecuted supporters, citing plans to make Subarnachar a municipality in honor of a woman who faced mistreatment for supporting the party.

Reaffirming his commitment to Noakhali, Dr Rahman promised, “We will not allow unfair treatment. We will work together to make Noakhali and Bangladesh a better place.”

The rally was chaired by Noakhali District Ameer Ishaq Khan and featured speeches from Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum and other leaders of the 11-party alliance.
