A doa and discussion meeting was held in Khulna today seeking eternal peace for the soul of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Wholesale Raw Market Traders and Owners' Association organised the programme with its president Sheikh Saber Hossain in the chair.

BNP-nominated candidate for Khulna-2 constituency Nazrul Islam Manju attended the programme as the chief guest, while Khulna City BNP President Shafiqul Alam Mona and General Secretary S M Shafiqul Alam Tuhin were present as special guests.

Speaking as the chief guest, Manju said Begum Khaleda Zia was the architect of modern democracy in Bangladesh and a leader of uncompromising principles. Ignoring injustices, oppression and persecution, she always moved forward on the path of truth and justice.

He said she never compromised on the interests of the country and its people and devoted her entire life to the struggle for democracy, freedom and sovereignty, sacrificing personal comfort and happiness. "Such leadership is rare in the political history of Bangladesh," he added.

Recalling her leadership, Manju said even after losing everything, Begum Khaleda Zia continued to think about the country and its people, noting that establishing people's rights was the core philosophy of her politics.

The programme concluded with a special doa and munajat seeking eternal peace of the soul of Begum Khaleda Zia, reports BSS.

Leaders and activists of BNP and its associate organisations were also present.
