Speaking to reporters at the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated, “What I have heard is that Madam (Khaleda) will return home in mid-April, but it is still not certain.”
Fakhrul also mentioned that Khaleda’s health has improved during her stay in London, where she is celebrating Eid with her family for the first time in eight years. "Eid is being celebrated today (Sunday), and she is spending it with her family," he added.
Khaleda is celebrating the occasion with her eldest son, Tarique Rahman, his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman, their daughter Zaima Rahman, as well as the wife of her late son Arafat Rahman Koko, Shamila Rahman, and two granddaughters, Zafia Rahman and Zahia Rahman.
Her personal doctor, AZM Zahid Hossain, spoke from London, noting that Khaleda's family had made all arrangements for Eid to ensure she could fully enjoy the celebration. “There are a lot of emotions involved,” he said.
This is Khaleda’s third consecutive Eid in London, following her stays during the 2015 and 2017 Eid celebrations. Dr. Zahid also reported that she is now in stable health and mentally stronger than before. “She is much better now than she was previously,” he added.
Khaleda Zia has been under the care of Professors Patrick Kennedy and Jennifer Cross at The London Clinic since being discharged on January 25. Afterward, she moved to her son Tarique Rahman’s residence for continued care.
Dr. Zahid stated that Khaleda’s medical board would advise on her return to Bangladesh, which could happen after Eid, as her condition is now stable.
Khaleda, 79, has been suffering from multiple health conditions, including liver cirrhosis, kidney and heart issues, diabetes, and arthritis. She traveled to London on January 8 for advanced medical treatment.
