Police in Faridpur have arrested Kawsar Akand, a former vice president of the Rajshahi University Chhatra Sangsad (RUCSU) and ex-vice president of the Faridpur district Chhatra League, in connection with a case linked to the July Movement protests.
Kawsar, a prominent Jubo League activist, is considered a close ally of Mujibur Rahman Nixon Chowdhury, the former Member of Parliament for Faridpur-4 and a presidium member of the central Jubo League. He is one of the main suspects in the case related to the violence during the July Movement.
Sub-Inspector Fahim Faisal from Kotwali Police Station confirmed that Kawsar, son of Dulal Akand, a hotel businessman from the Purbo Khabaspur area of the city, was arrested alongside his associate Moslem Biswas in Onather Mor around 11:30 pm on Tuesday.
According to police reports, Kawsar and a group of Chhatra League activists are accused of attacking student protesters during the July Movement at Khabaspur Boroitala, leaving several demonstrators injured.
Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Asaduzzaman stated that Kawsar and Biswas are being investigated for their roles in the attack on the student protesters. Authorities have assured that the investigation is ongoing as they gather further details.
