Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus

Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus emphasized on Tuesday the critical importance of eradicating corruption for Bangladesh’s future, stating that without tackling this issue, the country has no path forward.

“In order for Bangladesh to thrive, we must eliminate corruption. This is not only vital for the wellbeing of our citizens but also for the prosperity of our nation,” he said in a televised speech. “The international community, like our own people, wants us to be free from corruption, as they seek to enhance trade relations with us. Without addressing corruption, business and trade cannot flourish. Bangladesh has no future unless we eradicate corruption.”

Prof. Yunus underscored that the interim government is committed to creating a corruption-free administration. He highlighted that their efforts go beyond ensuring transparency in the current government; they aim to establish systems that will prevent future administrations from falling into the same corrupt practices.

“Corruption inflates costs beyond imagination and undermines the very foundations of our institutions,” he explained. “Government policies, institutional frameworks, and well-documented responsibilities become meaningless in practice. Instead of operating through established systems, the country often runs on an unwritten code that forces everyone—government, businesses, investors, and citizens—to comply with it.”

Upcoming Election to be Most Free and Credible in Bangladesh’s History: Dr. Yunus

Dr. Yunus further reassured the public that the government is prioritizing the upcoming election, ensuring it will be the most transparent and credible in the nation’s history.

To combat corruption and reduce bureaucratic inefficiency, Dr. Yunus revealed that the government is working to minimize physical interactions between citizens and government offices. A significant step in this direction is the introduction of e-filing across all government offices.

“E-filing will not only make government services more efficient but also allow real-time tracking of files within offices,” Dr. Yunus explained. “This will help reduce opportunities for corruption and ensure that citizens’ requests are processed fairly and transparently."

He added that the government is also working to implement online services across sectors where digital access is possible, aiming to end the financial exploitation and harassment citizens often face when accessing essential services.

“We are committed to eliminating the high fees citizens must pay for basic services,” he said, urging the public to provide feedback on simplifying online services. “We welcome suggestions from citizens to help improve our efforts. Please email us with your ideas.”

Prof. Yunus concluded his speech with a call to action, emphasizing that a corruption-free Bangladesh is essential for the nation’s prosperity, and citizens’ participation and support are key to realizing this vision.
