A violent clash between two factions of the BNP over the formation of new party committees in Baraiyarhat, Mirsharai upazila, on Wednesday afternoon resulted in one fatality and several injuries. The deceased, identified as 40-year-old Javed, was confirmed dead at the scene, according to Sabbir Mohammad Selim, officer-in-charge of Jorarganj Police Station.

The conflict erupted between the faction led by BNP leader Nurul Amin’s Chairman Group and the rival Nurul Amin Kala Group. Tensions escalated over party positions, with the clash claiming Javed’s life and injuring several others. Many of the injured are currently receiving treatment at the Mirsharai Upazila Health Complex.

Earlier, the local administration had imposed Section 144 within 500 yards of the central Shaheed Minar to prevent such disturbances, effective from 8:00 am Wednesday until 8:00 am Thursday. However, one faction violated the restriction by laying wreaths at the Shaheed Minar, triggering the violent confrontation. The clash stems from tensions between the newly appointed BNP committee and those left out of key party positions.
