PM Urges Editors to Balance Criticism with Govt Initiatives

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday urged editors to continue providing constructive criticism of the government while also highlighting its positive initiatives to keep people informed about steps taken in the public interest.

He made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation of the National Editors' Council at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Bangladesh Secretariat, according to the Prime Minister’s Press Wing.

The Prime Minister sought cooperation from editors in developing a policy framework to ensure a free and independent media environment and safeguard journalists’ interests.

The eight-member delegation was led by National Editors' Council Convener Shafik Rehman and Joint Convener Mahmudur Rahman.

The meeting discussed various issues related to media, journalism and ways to strengthen cooperation between the government and the press.

The delegation also included editors and representatives from several national publications and the Jatiya Press Club.
