
He said, “We hope the women MPs elected from reserved seats will play a meaningful role in making the Jatiya Sangsad more effective and functional.”
The minister made the remarks while talking to journalists today after party’s female MPs paid tributes to party founder Shaheed Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city.
The MPs were sworn in on May 3 at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban after being elected unopposed from reserved seats in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad. Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed administered the oath, while Prime Minister and Leader of the House Tarique Rahman was present at the ceremony.
Out of the 50 reserved seats in Parliament, 36 have been secured by BNP candidates.
Following the swearing-in, the MPs signed the official oath papers and the parliamentary register, reports BSS.
