8 BCL, Jubo League activists held in Ctg

Police arrested eight activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jubo League during a sudden procession in front of the Rifle Club under Kotwali Police Station in the port city early today.


The arrests were made around 6:00 am as the procession began, police said.

The detainees were identified as Md. Tushar, 20, son of Didarul Alam of Ashraf Ali Chowdhury Bari in Chapachhari under Banshkhali; Md. Mizbah Rahman Chowdhury, son of Alam Mia of Ward No. 2 in Ratnapur area; Masudur Rahman, 24; Abdullah Al Noman, 20, son of Abul Kalam Azad of Fatehabad Sandhip Colony in Hathazari; Md. Rakib, 19, son of Md. Swapan; Ibrahim Hossain Babu, 22, son of the late Jahangir Alam; Md. Sharif Hossain Munna, 20, son of Md. Bahar; Md. Riaz Hossain, 20; and Syed Hamid Miyaji, 22, son of Osman Gani of Syedpara area in Satkania.

Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station Md. Aftab Uddin said police rushed to the spot after receiving information about the procession and detained the activists from the scene.

He added that a case is being filed and further legal action is underway, reports BSS.
