Man arrested with cocktail ingredients, 9,000 masks in Keraniganj

Cocktail ingredients and masks recovered from South Keraniganj on Friday 25 September 2026.

Dhaka, Sept 25 — Police on Friday arrested a man and recovered various materials used to make explosives and cocktails, along with 9,000 paper masks allegedly prepared for an unlawful purpose, during an operation in South Keraniganj of Dhaka.

The arrestee was identified as Zahid Hasan Emon, 30.

According to Shyampur Model Police Station, a cocktail explosion occurred in front of Jatrabari Police Station on Sept 19, 2026. Following the incident, police from Jatrabari, Shyampur and other relevant police stations under Wari Division began a coordinated investigation.

During the investigation, police found information and evidence linking Zahid Hasan Emon to the incident.

As part of the investigation, Shyampur Model Police Station arrested Emon in Bagashur area under South Keraniganj Police Station early Friday with assistance from South Keraniganj police.

Based on information provided by Emon after his arrest, police recovered 1.5kg of caustic soda, 1.6kg of sulphur, 5kg of marbles used in making cocktails, 2kg of 1-inch barbed wire, 20 red tapes and 11 black tapes used for wrapping cocktails.

They also recovered 9,000 paper masks allegedly prepared for an unlawful purpose, packed in three cartons, 30 packets of elastic used for wearing the masks, and a Jaipan-brand blender and one jar used to crush materials for making cocktails.

Police said Emon initially admitted that the masks had been sent to him through an unidentified van driver on the instructions of a leader from Lalbagh.

He allegedly kept the masks at his residence for later distribution among various leaders and activists.

Md Akter Hossain, deputy commissioner (Media and Public Relations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said Emon has two separate cases filed against him with Shahbagh and Lalbagh police stations.

Legal proceedings against Zahid Hasan Emon are underway in connection with the incident. - UNB
