Bangladesh beat Guatemala in Chess Olympiad

Dhaka, 25 Sept - Bangladesh's open team defeated Guatemala 3.5-0.5in the eighth round of the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad which is now being heldin Samarkand, Uzbekistan, said a press release.

International Master Mohammad Fahad Rahman, FIDE Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia andGrandmaster Niaz Murshed won their respective games against Guatemala's FIDE Master Cu Hor Winston Darwin, International Master Juarez Flores Carlos and FIDE Master Ordonez Bonilla Ricardo Andres.

FIDE Master Sakline Mostafa Sajid split point with Guatemala's FIDE Master Linares Orellana Hector Jose. Meanwhile, Bangladesh's women's team drew 2-2 with Norway in the eighth round.

For Bangladesh, Women International Master Wadifa Ahmed, Women FIDE Master Noshin Anjum, Women Candidate Master Walijah Ahmed and Women Candidate Master Nusrat Jahan Alo all drew their respective games against Norway's Women International Master Stanford Sheila Barth, Women International Master Hagesather Ellen, Machlik Monika and Women FIDE Master Hagesather Nina.

After eight rounds, Bangladesh's open team has collected 10 points while the women's team has earned nine points.BSS
