The Bangladesh Army has vehemently rejected a report by India Today claiming an "emergency meeting" was held due to a possible coup against Chief Adviser Mohammad Yunus, calling it "false and fabricated."
In a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate on Tuesday, the Army denounced the March 25 article titled "Bangladesh Army Holds Emergency Meeting Amid Possibility of Coup Against Chief Adviser Mohammad Yunus" as a glaring example of journalistic malpractice.
The statement emphasized that the report, which lacked credible sources or evidence, was based on misinformation and an attempt to spread baseless rumors about the Bangladesh Army. "The claims of an 'impending coup' are entirely unfounded and deceitful," the ISPR said, criticizing India Today for publishing sensationalist narratives without verifying facts.
This is not the first time India Today has been accused of spreading false information about the Bangladesh Army, the statement added. A similar misleading report was debunked in a rejoinder issued by the Army on March 11.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to serving the nation and upholding democratic principles. The ISPR called for responsible journalism, urging media outlets like India Today to refrain from publishing unsubstantiated and harmful claims that foster mistrust between Bangladesh and India.
