Home Adviser Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.)
“We are working to ensure that the Eid celebrations are smooth, safe, and joyful for everyone. Necessary steps have been taken to maintain flawless security, peace, and order throughout the country during Eid,” he stated.
The adviser made the remarks following the 8th meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order at the Bangladesh Secretariat. Committee members participated in the meeting, which focused on the overall law and order situation, with particular emphasis on the upcoming national events.
Jahangir highlighted that the meeting prioritized maintaining stability and order during the celebrations of Independence and National Day tomorrow, as well as Eid-ul-Fitr.
“The law and order situation is a top priority, and we are fully committed to ensuring it remains under control during these important occasions,” he said.
In response to rising criminal activities, the government has instructed authorities to arrest individuals involved in illegal actions or disruptive movements. Jahangir confirmed that patrols and intelligence surveillance have been intensified across the country to prevent criminal activity and maintain peace.
Additional security measures include setting up check posts at key entry and exit points of Dhaka, alongside intensified operations at residential hotels and slums to ensure a smooth Eid. “We will deploy intelligence agencies along with uniformed police, and set up check posts at strategic locations to enhance security,” he added.
The government has also planned to provide money escorts for cash transfers and take steps to detect and prevent the circulation of counterfeit currency. Authorities have been urged to ensure timely payment of salaries and bonuses to garment and industrial workers ahead of the holidays, with strict legal action promised against those causing instability in industrial units.
In preparation for Eid, Jahangir revealed that control rooms have been established by police and other law enforcement agencies to maintain order, with all control rooms staying in communication with the central Joint Operation Center (01320001223) of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
To ease traffic congestion during Eid, measures have been taken to streamline toll collection at the Jamuna Bridge, Padma Bridge, and other flyovers. “We’ve also ensured that non-essential vehicles, including construction materials and long vehicles, will not be allowed on highways or ferries for six days—three days before Eid and three days after Eid,” he said.
Jahangir further instructed transport authorities to avoid overloading vehicles and ensure no extra fares are collected, emphasizing the importance of public awareness to ensure smooth travel during the holiday period.
