
The seizures were made in separate drives by five BGB battalions, according to five press releases issued here this afternoon.
Following a tip-off, Mymensingh Battalion (39 BGB) seized Indian cosmetics worth Tk 459,250 from the Rubber Bagan area in Sreebardi upazila of Sherpur district.
In Brahmanbaria, Sarail Battalion (25 BGB) stopped and searched a truck in the Islampur area of Bijoynagar upazila and seized 137 Indian blankets, 1,569 cans of Red Bull energy drinks, 18,243 pieces of chocolates and 8,450 sunglasses.
The estimated value of the seized goods, including the truck, was Tk 16,364,040.
In separate drives, the battalion also seized 10 kilograms of cannabis, 28 bottles of foreign liquor and 57 bottles of beer.
In Chapainawabganj, Mahananda Battalion (59 BGB) seized 110 bottles of Indian Eskuf syrup, a bicycle and two Indian truck tyres in separate drives in Shibganj. The seized items were valued at Tk 149,000.
Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) conducted drives in several border areas and seized eight buffaloes, nine cows, 540 mobile phone displays, cosmetics, cumin, betel nuts, fruits, chocolates, sugar, vegetables, blankets and other smuggled goods.
It also seized 375 kilograms of stinging catfish allegedly being smuggled out of Bangladesh. The total value of the seized goods was Tk 6,608,690.
Meanwhile, Rajshahi Battalion (1 BGB) seized 500 Indian Tapentadol tablets worth around Tk 50,000 from an orchard in the Purba Batan area under Katakhali Police Station, reports BSS.
