Russian House Dhaka hosts discussion on Andrei Tarkovsky’s cinema

Russian House Dhaka, in cooperation with Dhaka New Cinema, organised a special discussion programme on the life, works and cinematic legacy of renowned Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky on Monday.

Titled “A Friend in Dire Times: Exploring the Cinema of Andrei Tarkovsky,” the programme focused on Tarkovsky’s distinctive approach to cinema and the deeper meaning of film beyond entertainment.

The discussion examined themes central to his work, including time, memory, sound, silence, space and the meaning of images. Participants also explored the relevance of these ideas in today’s rapidly changing visual landscape, shaped by artificial intelligence, virtual imagery and the growing popularity of short-form video content.

The programme featured discussions and film screenings, offering participants an opportunity to reflect on Tarkovsky’s contribution to world cinema and his enduring influence on filmmakers and audiences.
