The decision was made during a core committee meeting held at the Ministry of Home Affairs Secretariat yesterday, chaired by Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Rtd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
The meeting was attended by a range of senior officials, including Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Public Works and Housing Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for Home Affairs Khoda Box Chowdhury, and other key members of the ministry and its various departments.
One of the key directives from the meeting was for the authorities to compile updated, Thana-specific criminal lists for prompt arrests. Furthermore, a decision was made to increase the number of check posts at critical points across the city, while enhancing the patrolling presence of law enforcement agencies.
Members of the Navy and Coast Guard will also join patrols along major routes and sensitive areas in the capital. In addition, approximately 500 personnel from the Armed Police Battalion will collaborate with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to ensure the safety and security of the capital.
To support these efforts, the core committee approved the procurement of additional motorcycles for the DMP, BGB, Ansar, and Coast Guard, enabling officers to efficiently navigate the narrow lanes and alleyways of the metropolis during operations.
The scope of the operations will also extend outside the capital, focusing on areas such as Tongi, Bashila, Keraniganj, and Munshiganj, where patrols will be intensified to prevent and respond to criminal activities.
Additionally, senior officers on duty, including Deputy Police Commissioners and Army Brigade Commanders, have been instructed to provide regular updates to the media about the progress of the operations.
Finally, the committee emphasized the importance of countering misinformation, instructing relevant authorities to take action against false claims, rumors, and propaganda that could undermine the efforts of the operation.
