Patuakhali: A group is trying to sell government Khas land worth hundreds of crores of taka in the Kuakata tourist area through illegal settlements. This has raised concerns that the development of the tourist area will be hampered.  It is alleged that an influential group is trying to gain financial benefits by showing these non-agricultural and important Khas lands in collusion with dishonest officials and employees of the land office by showing them in documents.  In addition, there is a concern that the land allotted to the poor and landless people will be seized through fraud.  According to local sources, a case (No. 73/10) was filed by the government to cancel the settlement to recover the government Khas land that was settled illegally, but the settlement was later canceled.
