Iran’s top diplomat urges Islamic unity against US-Israeli aggression
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called for greater unity among Islamic nations in response to what he described as ongoing US-Israeli aggression, stressing the need for a coordinated and responsible response from Muslim-majority countries.
Araghchi made the remarks during a conversation with Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, the newly appointed Secretary-General of the 57-member Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
According to Araghchi, the discussion focused on regional developments and the challenges facing the Muslim world, including the continuing Israeli military actions in Palestine and Lebanon.
The Iranian foreign minister said he conveyed his concerns over what he described as Israel’s ongoing aggression against Palestinians and Lebanese territory. He also underscored the importance of collective action by Islamic countries in addressing the escalating regional tensions.
Araghchi emphasised that Islamic nations have a responsibility to respond to developments affecting the region and to work toward protecting the interests and rights of affected populations.
The remarks come as the OIC, which represents 57 member states across the Muslim world, faces continued pressure to take a stronger collective position on conflicts and escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Iran has repeatedly urged Muslim and regional countries to strengthen coordination over the situation in Palestine and Lebanon, while calling for international action to address the humanitarian and security consequences of the ongoing conflicts.
Araghchi’s appeal to the OIC leadership highlights Tehran’s push for a more unified position among Islamic countries as tensions involving Israel, Palestine, Lebanon and the wider region remain high.
