Water has already entered the residence of Chattogram city mayor.
Meteorologist Jahirul Islam of Patenga Meteorological Office said they recorded 60 millimetres (mm) of rainfall in the port city in last 12 hours till 9am on Friday.
Almost all the city roads including GEC, Gate No. 2, Muradpur, Wasa, Khatunganj, Chawkbazar and Bahaddarhat have also been flooded.
Even City Mayor Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury's Baddarhat residence has gone underwater.
A trader Fazlul Quader has said the downpour has continued, and his locality Gate No 2, GEC and Bahaddarhat areas have been inundated.
Important establishments have also been submerged, creating a sense of chaos and panic in the port city. Commuters were seen wading through knee-deep to waist-deep water to reach their destinations on Friday morning. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on city roads.
