Jatiya Chhatra Shakti, the student wing of the National Citizen Party (NCP), staged a protest at Dhaka University (DU) today demanding the resignation of Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, citing the failure to arrest those responsible for the attack on Inqilab Mancha convener Sharif Osman Hadi and the overall deterioration of law and order.

Following a protest march, demonstrators burned an effigy of the Home Affairs Adviser.

The march began around 5:00 pm from Shahbagh, proceeded through the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) and VC Chattar, and ended at the Raju Sculpture.

Addressing the rally, Chhatra Shakti President Zahid Ahsan said, “The killers of Hadi will surely be arrested. Sheikh Hasina will be tried in this country, but not by Jahangir. We are not placing any demands before Jahangir, because he is unfit to hold this position. No demands can be made to an irresponsible Home Affairs Adviser.”

He also announced that a symbolic funeral prayer (gayebana janaza) for Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury would be held after Asr prayers on Friday.

Earlier, on 15 December, Jatiya Chhatra Shakti blocked Shahbagh for two hours, reiterating their demand for the Home Affairs Adviser’s resignation, reports UNB.
