Fishing To Resume In Kaptai Lake From Aug 10 Midnight

Fishing in Kaptai Lake will resume from midnight on August 10 after a more than three-month ban imposed to facilitate fish breeding and natural reproduction.
The Kaptai Lake Management Committee decided to lift the ban after consultations with officials of the Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC), fishermen, fish traders and other stakeholders.
The fishing ban was imposed on April 25 to protect fish breeding and reproduction, particularly among carp species. Authorities later extended the restriction by another 10 days to allow the fish to complete their breeding cycle.
Under the decision, fishermen will be allowed to catch fish from midnight on August 10.
However, fish landing, transportation and marketing will officially begin at 6am on August 11.
Fishermen and fish traders around the lake have already made preparations to resume their activities following the prolonged closure.
The reopening is expected to provide relief to thousands of people who depend on Kaptai Lake for their livelihoods.
Kaptai Lake is one of Bangladesh's major inland fisheries, supplying fish to local markets as well as Dhaka and other parts of the country.
