Dhaka, 23 Feb  - Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma has said that the World Audio-Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) is an enabling platform to work together to create new avenues for collaboration, innovation, and artistic excellence.

The first edition of the World Audio-Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025 is set to be held from May 1 to 4 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai, India.

The High Commission of India in Dhaka organised a programme to celebrate “111 years of Indian Cinema” at the Indian Cultural Centre on Sunday evening.

The programme included a soft launch of the WAVES Summit, which will be hosted by India in May 2025, the inauguration of an exhibition on the “Journey of Indian Cinema,” a discussion, and a screening of the Oscar-winning Indian documentary film, The Elephant Whisperers.

WAVES aims to bring together the leaders of the Media and Entertainment (M&E) industry from across the globe, including TV & radio, news media, music, advertising, animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, social media, online creators, artificial intelligence, film, OTT platforms, and exhibitors.

The Summit will include the Global Media Dialogue of Ministers & Policymakers, a Roundtable of M&E CEOs, WAVES Awards recognising the best of the M&E industry, 22 international challenges, masterclasses and workshops, classical and fusion cultural performances, media startup showcases, plenary and conference sessions, a Bharat pavilion and exhibition, and an e-marketplace for the M&E industry, called WAVES Bazaar.

The event was attended by notable personalities from the media and entertainment industry of Bangladesh, who also participated in an interactive discussion on the trends in Indian and Bangladeshi filmmaking and avenues to promote greater collaboration between the two countries.
