Dhaka, 23 February--A group of students from Dhaka University organized a protest rally against 'the rising crimes such as theft, assault, extortion, and rape, and the overall deterioration of the law and order situation across the country.

The protest rally was held at the Raju Sculpture of Dhaka University under the banner of 'Conscious Students of Dhaka University.'

During the rally, speakers mentioned that during the previous government's tenure, no justice was served regarding crimes such as rape. As a result, the criminals have gained confidence. They appealed to the government to take action to restore order and suppress the criminals with an iron fist.

Sadikur Rahman Sunny, a student from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, said that crimes like rape and theft have suddenly increased in the country. Ordinary people are terrified. The interim government should immediately bring criminals under the law and restore law and order. As citizens of the state, we want to live safely. The state must ensure the safety of our lives.

At this time, he demanded that the government launch an 'Operation Rapist Hunt' similar to 'Operation Devil Hunt' to bring rapists under the law.

Ahmed Hossain Jony, from the Department of Economics, said that the current law and order situation and security threats in Bangladesh have reached an alarming level. The increasing criminal activities, political instability, and the threat of various terrorist attacks are creating a sense of insecurity in citizens' lives. It is the state's responsibility to protect citizens' fundamental rights and security. To address the growing security threats, it is urgent for the government to take strict action.

Other speakers at the protest included Farhad Ali, a student from the Department of Islamic Studies, and Yasin Arafat, also from the Department of Islamic Studies. - UNB
