Bagerhat, 23 Feb – Accusing Sheikh Hasina of killing thousands of leaders and activists, and destroying the electoral system, BNP Vice Chairman Barkatullah Bulu on Sunday said that even if she is hanged 31 times, justice for her crimes would never be served.
He made the remarks while addressing a district BNP’s rally at the Khan Jahan Ali (RA) shrine field in Bagerhat.
“We respect Dr Yunus. The interim government should run the country properly, control commodity prices, and maintain law and order. The democratic rights for which we have sacrificed our lives must be restored. For that, a roadmap will be announced for when and how the elections will take place,” Bulu said.
“When Sheikh Hasina filed a case against Dr. Yunus, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia spoke in his favour. After Sheikh Hasina fled the country on August 5, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir proposed his name. Later, all political parties supported him,” he added.
The BNP leader said, “The people of Bangladesh have given their lives, endured imprisonment for democracy. Since 2014, we have not been able to cast our vote. For this vote, for our civil rights, and for the guarantee of our normal death, we have been fighting this movement.”
Pointing at the leaders and activists of BNP, Barkatullah Bulu said, “BNP is a party of people. Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman was always on the side of people. Inspired by his ideals, I urge all leaders and activists to unite and stand by people.”
