The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna is set to begin the final phase of tests before starting electricity generation at its first unit, following approval from the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA).
The regulator has authorised the next stage after reviewing the results of physical tests conducted following the successful completion of the first unit’s nuclear reaction.
Known as the “power start” or C-stage, this phase will involve preparations for supplying electricity to the national grid on a trial basis.
Sources at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant said BAERA approved the start of the next phase on Thursday afternoon based on the physical test results.
A series of tests will be conducted at this stage to verify the plant’s safe and stable operation. These will assess the performance of the reactor, cooling systems, turbine, generator, power supply and control systems.
