
Two non-government organisations, Protibesh O Unnayan Forum Rajshahi and Paribartan Foundation, made the observation at a press conference at a city restaurant today.
The organisations presented 13-point recommendations to the government in response to the recent energy situation.
Protibesh O Unnayan Forum Vice President and National Women Lawyers Association Director Advocate Dil Setara Chuni, General Secretary Rashed Ripon, members Taiyebur Rahman and Pankaj Karmakar, and National Indigenous Council Secretary Bimal Rajoar, among others, spoke at the press conference.
The speakers emphasised the use of solar power for irrigation in the Barind region. They also demanded government initiatives to establish charging stations for auto-rickshaws.
They further called for full tax exemption on solar power equipment in the upcoming budget and provision of free solar systems for the poor.
Key recommendations included building national consensus in the energy sector, providing tax incentives for renewable energy, rapid implementation of rooftop solar programmes, and quick approval of solar power projects.
They also recommended prioritising electric vehicles in the transport sector and expanding solar-powered irrigation systems, reports BSS.
