
He made the call when a four-member EC delegation, led by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin, paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban.
The President urged the commission to conduct the upcoming local government elections and all other elections in a free, fair and impartial manner, assuring it of his continued cooperation in this regard.
He also stressed the need to institutionalise, strengthen and consolidate democracy and called upon the EC to discharge its responsibilities with neutrality, integrity and accountability.
The other members of the delegation were Election Commissioners Abdur Rahmanel Masud and Md Anwarul Islam Sarker, and Brigadier General (retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanullah.
During the meeting, the Chief Election Commissioner congratulated Mirza Fakhrul on assuming office as the President of the country.
He briefed the President on the commission's overall activities, including preparations for union parishad and municipality elections, NID correction services and NID services for Bangladeshis living abroad.
Nasir Uddin also sought the President's overall cooperation in carrying out the commission's responsibilities.
The President thanked the Election Commission for conducting the 13th parliamentary election in a free and impartial manner.
Relevant secretaries of the President's Office were present during the meeting, reports UNB.
