Dhaka, August 28 - Abdoulaye Seck, Country Director, Bangladesh and Bhutan of the World Bank (WB), has praised the progress of Bangladesh since its independence.

He also said LDC graduation and economic diversification to be among the top challenges Bangladesh needs to face and prepare for in the near future.

Abdoulaye said this while speaking as the chief guest during the third quarterly luncheon of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI), held at its Gulshan office on Monday.

Catering to the two million annual job seekers amid the latest geopolitical considerations and climate change required adaptations, he said.

“Bangladesh's export as a percentage of GDP was very low, even when compared to other competing exporting nations. Navigating these would require constant dialogues among the public and the private sectors along with multilateral organisations,” he stated.

MCCI President Md. Saiful Islam praised the World Bank as a major contributor to the development of business and commerce in Bangladesh.

He hoped to explore collaborating opportunities with the WB in the areas of developing business climate index and climate change.

MCCI President believed that converging the efforts of the MCCI and the WB had the potential to elevate Bangladesh's business landscape to new heights.

Senior members of the MCCI were also present at the programme, said a press release. - UNB
