4 lakh yaba tablets, contraband worth Tk 80 lakh seized along borders
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today seized 400,000 yaba tablets and smuggled goods worth over Tk 80 lakh in four separate anti-smuggling drives along different border areas.
According to four BGB press releases, troops of Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB) on information recovered the yaba tablets, abandoned near Shmashan Ghat under Hnila Border Outpost (BOP), around 3am.
Four suspected smugglers from Myanmar fled after a BGB patrol challenged them, leaving behind sacks containing the drugs.
In Sylhet, troops of Battalion-48 seized goods worth Tk 47.76 lakh, including cumin, cattle, chocolates, cosmetics, betel nuts, garlic and fish, in drives at six border outposts.
Meanwhile, Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB) seized Indian goods worth Tk 32.78 lakh in separate operations in Brahmanbaria and Cumilla districts. The items included rice, cattle, sarees, edible oil, cosmetics, cannabis and an easy-bike.
In Jessore, troops of Khulna Battalion (21 BGB) arrested a 19-year-old man with 20 yaba tablets during an anti-smuggling drive near Goga BOP.
He is being processed for handover to Sharsha Police Station, reports BSS.
BGB said intelligence surveillance and patrol activities would continue to prevent drug trafficking and smuggling and maintain border security, the BGB releases added.
